Detention, Layover, TONU, and Accessorial Documentation

How to document common accessorial events without promising payment.

Practical guidance

Use the information in the correct carrier-first context.

Equitable does not guarantee freight, rates, lanes, contracts, carrier signups, revenue, income, or business results.

Document the event when it happens

Record arrival time, appointment time, release time, contact names, written instructions, photos where appropriate, receipts, and messages. Follow the rate confirmation notice requirements.

Common categories

  • Detention: delay beyond the agreed free time.
  • Layover: delay that holds the driver into another day or service period.
  • TONU: truck ordered but not used, subject to written terms.
  • Lumper, tarp, washout, and other accessorials: require receipts or agreed proof.

Documentation supports a request but does not guarantee payment. The written agreement and responsible paying party control.

Next step

Move forward with the path that matches your real role.

Read the full offer before applying. Digital products, dispatcher platform access, carrier self-dispatch, and carrier dispatch support are separate unless a written offer clearly says otherwise.
