Equipment controls the search
A shipper may move freight but still be irrelevant to a specific carrier. Freight characteristics must match trailer type, dimensions, securement, temperature needs, dock access, weight, and operating authority.
Common differences
- Dry van: enclosed general freight and dock compatibility.
- Reefer: temperature control, washouts, food-grade expectations, and appointment sensitivity.
- Flatbed or stepdeck: dimensions, tarping, securement, crane or forklift loading, and over-dimensional limits.
- Hotshot: smaller time-sensitive freight, trailer configuration, and weight limits.
- Box truck: dock height, liftgate, local or regional service, and pallet dimensions.
- Power only: trailer condition, interchange terms, and return requirements.
Never assume equipment fit from a business name alone. Verify the commodity and shipping requirements.
